There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe the feelings I have for London. Call me mad if you must, but London to me is real love of the truly, madly, deeply kind, one which consumes you with all the passion that’s possible. If you understand falling in love with cities, probably you will judge me for a cliché, but then that’s the thing about love – it doesn’t care what you think. Through the years, I have written many a love notes to the city that taught me that fairy tales can turn real if you work hard enough. Being a city girl at heart, falling in love with London came naturally to me, and both of us fit together perfectly in the bigger scheme of things.
Today, as another year is inching towards it’s end, I cannot stop thinking about a New Year’s eve at London three years ago, which made me realise that no matter where I go, a piece of my heart will always belong to this city. I welcomed 2014 by the beautiful Thames, with fireworks to light up the sky , London Eye all glittering like gold and the mighty Big Ben reminding me that it’s a dream-come-true. Being part of a celebration of such a large and global scale is something that I am proud to have checked off, and so glad it happened at a place that resonates well with my soul.
Ringing in the new year at London is a one of a kind experience, one which is too good for words. As the heart longs to go back to this great city, it knows that the distance is only making me more and more fond of everything about London. A white Christmas with London glittering away till wee hours of the morning is as poetic as a city can be. Trust me, one has to see it to believe it because words or pictures cannot capture the soul of this city which comes alive with celebrations. As I go down memory lane to re-live the festive spirit of London, I cannot stop gushing over how those fifteen minutes of fireworks were the best fifteen minutes of 2014 for me. For the entire duration that the sky lit up, there was no other thing in the world more beautiful than the London sky.
If only I could bring in 2017 with these sparklers lighting up my life again. The longing for London is not one which subsides with time, so hopefully 2017 could be the year of going back to where I have left behind a piece of my heart. Post the exchange rate gains, (1 GBP = INR 100 earlier this year and now 1 GBP = INR 82) probably London is calling me again to conclude the story we began in 2013. London, the eternal love is a perfect getaway for all seasons and even though I’ve been head-over-heels in love with the city, there are so many things to do in London that I still have not crossed off from the bucket list. Also, I cannot get enough of Oxford Street in this lifetime for the plethora of things one can do around, and of course shopping tops the list.
